Cruising Through the Ionosphere: Green

  • Cruising Through the Ionosphere: Green
29.7x21cm (A4). Acrylic on canvas board.
    Signed by the artist. Framed.

A series of 6 colourful cosmic art paintings inspired by half-remembered song lyrics and part of the Sound of Space series.

This lyric Cruising through the ionosphere is from the title track of Cosmic Thing, the 1989 album by The B-52s. Over half the album was produced by Nile Rodgers, another music hero of mine (Don Was worked on the other half - also a music legend!) - so there is much to love here (whatever your personal feelings are about the song Loveshack).

I have always been a fan of the band. Their live shows are fun and joyous events - full of colour and optimism.

After recently revisiting their albums while creating these works, I was reminded of how many 'cosmic' references there are in many their lyrics and album titles. It seemed fitting to celebrate their work in my Sound of Space series.

These have been created through layering colour on colour - using acrylic paint, spray, inks, mediums and gels to create different textures - like the atoms and molecules in the different layers of the Ionosphere.

Framed in 5mm inset black stain wood floater frame.. Each one is numbered and signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
