FEATHERS
This series began in 2020 as an exploration of mythical and exotic birds, using the myths and stories that surrounded them to inspire works of layered texture and colour, each piece capturing the creature's mystique and beauty.
In 2021, J R Oatts evolved the works to consider feathers of a different kind. Influenced by costume designers including William Travilla and Bob Mackie, the new 'Feathers' were inspired by the flamboyant colours of the feather-clad showgirl, in all her manifestations: Hollywood films, burlesque shows and drag bars. Each piece aims to capture a sense of glamour and colour in motion - while radiating feminine power.
