The Blue Rising series takes earthy tones like burnt umber and contrasts them with brights like ultramarine, fluorescent orange, primary cyan, quinacridone rose pink.

The side of the canvas is painted in burnt umber in textured strokes, to give the the whole piece the sense that it is one solid piece of wood - an artwork that emerges from the land itself.
